Stores match each release to an artist profile using the artist name and any artist ID sent with it. A shared or similar name can put your music on someone else's page, or on a new, empty one. Don't take your release down. Send us the release UPC and links to both profiles so we can request the fix, and report it on Spotify for Artists too if you have access.
What this means
Seeing your new song on someone else's page is stressful, but it can be fixed.
When your release reaches a store, the store decides which artist page it belongs on. If your release carries your artist ID for that store, it goes straight to your page. If it only carries a name, the store matches by name. Two artists with the same or a similar name can get mixed up.
This is a data mix-up, not a sign that anyone has taken your music. If you think someone is deliberately posing as you, see Someone uploaded or claimed my music: what do I do?
When this applies
This article covers three situations:
Your music is on another artist's profile. Your new release shows up on the page of a different artist with a similar name.
Your music is split across profiles. Your new release created a new, empty profile instead of landing on yours.
Someone else's music is on your profile. A release by a different artist shows up on your page.
It also helps if a featured artist on your release landed on the wrong profile.
What you need before you start
Your release title and UPC. Where to find your UPC
A link to the profile where your release shows up now.
A link to your correct profile on each affected store.
Your artist IDs, if you have them: your Spotify URI and your Apple Music artist ID. How to find your Spotify URI · Where to find artist IDs
For Spotify: access to Spotify for Artists, if you have it. Get Spotify for Artists access
Step-by-step
1. Tell us
Contact us with the details above.
List the stores where your release is on the wrong page.
We'll request the fix for releases delivered through The Artist Platform.
2. Follow the route for each store
Store | How it usually gets fixed |
Spotify | If you have Spotify for Artists access, report it with Spotify's content mismatch form. Spotify says it emails you once it's fixed, usually within a few days. No access yet? Ask us to help. Spotify's guidance |
Apple Music | Apple moves your release once it's edited to carry your Apple Music artist ID. Ask us to do this. If you've claimed your page in Apple Music for Artists, you can also report it to Apple yourself: contact Apple Music for Artists support and choose Artist Catalog Issues. Apple's guidance · Claim your Apple Music page |
YouTube and YouTube Music | Only the distributor can ask YouTube to move tracks to the right artist channel. Ask us and we'll send the request. YouTube's guidance |
Other stores | Send us the store name and both profile links. We'll check what's possible and let you know. For Boomplay and Audiomack, see Get your music on Boomplay and Audiomack. |
3. Prevent it on your next release
Add your Spotify and Apple Music artist IDs to every artist field, including featured artists. This tells each store exactly which page your song belongs on.
Choose "new profile" only for your very first release on that store.
Spell your artist name the same way on every release.

What happens next
Each store works at its own pace, so we can't set a date for the fix. What we can do is send the request and tell you once it's in.
Once your release moves, its streams usually move with it.
If a new, empty profile was created, it may stay after the fix. Each store decides whether to remove it.
Troubleshooting
Problem | What to do |
I already took my release down | Hold off on uploading it again. Contact us with the old UPC and both profile links, so we can sort out the profile first. |
A featured artist landed on the wrong profile | Contact us with the UPC, the featured artist's name and links to their correct profiles. |
A new, empty profile was created | Send us links to the new profile and to your existing one. On Spotify, also use the content mismatch form if you have access. |
Someone else's song is on my profile | Report it with Spotify's content mismatch form if you have access. Then send us links to the song and your profile. |
It's still wrong after a few weeks | Contact us with the UPC, the store, and the date you first reported it. We'll follow it up. |
I think someone is deliberately posing as me | That needs a different route. See Someone uploaded or claimed my music: what do I do? |
