Sometimes, release details need to be updated after your music has already been sent to stores. This could include things like artist names, track titles, credits, label information, release details, or other metadata.
The good news: metadata corrections can usually be sent to the stores. đ
Before you update your metadata
If your release is still being processed by a DSP, or awaiting for inspection, the release may be temporarily locked. This means you may not be able to edit or resend metadata changes until the store has finished processing the release.
In some cases, the best option may be to take the release down, correct the metadata, and then deliver it again. This is usually only needed when the correction cannot be made through a standard metadata update.
How to submit a metadata update to the stores
1) Open the release you want to update
Go to Distribution from the main menu.
Find the release, album, or track you want to update, then select it.
2) Edit the release metadata
Click Edit to open the metadata editor.
Update the incorrect or missing information.
Before continuing, make sure all required fields are completed and there are no validation errors.
3) Save your changes
Once the metadata has been updated, save the release.
4) Redistribute the release
After the changes are saved, redistribute the release to the stores as you normally would.
This sends the updated metadata to the DSPs for review and processing.
What happens next?
Once submitted, each store reviews and applies the update separately. The timing can vary from store to store, so the change may not appear everywhere at the same time.
Your release does not need to be live for metadata updates to be processed. Updates can also be sent while a release is delivered but not yet publicly available, as long as the DSP is not currently locking the asset during processing.
