Royalty splits: share your royalties with collaborators

Split a track's royalties with producers, co-writers and featured artists. Set it up in Distribution Center, edit it later, and see how payees get paid.

Royalty splits let you share a track's royalties with the people who made it with you, like a producer, co-writer or featured artist. You set the percentages, and each collaborator is paid their share directly. Royalty splits used to be called Track splits.

What this means

A split tells us who gets what from a track. For example, you could keep 60% and give 40% to your producer. Each person in a split is a payee. They get their own invitation and add their own payment details, so you don't have to pay them yourself.

When a track appears on more than one release, like a single and then an album, its split applies on every release. If you change it, the change applies everywhere.

When this applies

  • You made a track with collaborators and agreed to share its royalties.

  • You need to change the people or percentages on a split you set up.

  • A collaborator asks why they haven't been paid.

What you need before you start

  • A release in Distribution Center.

  • Each collaborator's name and email address. Check them carefully: if an email is wrong, we pay the wrong person, and we can't get that money back.

  • The percentages you've agreed. Each track's split must add up to exactly 100%, including your own share.

Step-by-step

  1. Open Distribution Center. Go to Distribution and click Go to Distribution Center.

  2. Open Royalty Splits. Go to Rights > Royalty Splits and select your release.

  3. Click Add Splits. For each track, click Add Split and enter the payee's name, email and percentage. Choose All Tracks to use the same split across the release, or pick specific tracks.

  4. Check the summary. Confirm the payee details are right and that each track adds up to 100%.

  5. Click Create Splits.

To change a split later, open the same page, select the release and edit the payees or percentages. You can edit any split you created yourself.

What happens next

  • Each new payee gets an email invitation to add their payment details. They're paid only once they've done that, so let them know it's coming.

  • We work out the release's split for you from the track splits, including for sales of the whole release.

  • Payees are paid from the next statement after the split is set up, on the usual schedule. How money works on The Artist Platform

What to do

A split shows Managed and I can't edit it

Our team set up or changed that split, for example when you asked us to update it. It's locked, so you can't edit it yourself. Message us with the release and what should change.

I see "Multiple Splits Exist"

There's more than one split on that track or release. Message us and we'll sort it out.

My collaborator hasn't been paid

Ask them to look for the invitation email, check their spam folder, and add their payment details. Set up your payout details

I entered the wrong email

Message us straight away, before the next statement, with the release and the correct email.

The percentages won't save

Each track must add up to exactly 100%, including your own share.
